A year ago Hallvard booked 3 seats at the Oslo Operahouse which had just been newly built. So lasty Thursday we set off to Hallvard's niece and family in Moss. The snow was starting to melt, but as we got closer to Telemark.... the snow got higher. Hallvard had to do all the driving because I was still recovering from an operation on my right hand. Funnily enough, Nils, Bjørg's husband, had just had an operation on his knee, so with the pair of us sitting around with bandages and crutches it looked like a convalescant home. The next day Bjørg drove us to the Opera House in Oslo where we saw Ariadne auf Naxos, by Richard Strauss. We enjoyed it very much. To me it's amazing that the voices are not magnified by electronic means, but purely from the accoustics of the building. We were treated to one of the most demanding arias for the singer in Opera, about 11 minutes of it. To me it's fantastic that human beings are capable of such things. Next day we went shopping with Nils to the shopping-centre in Moss. After walking round the shops we sat down and ordered 3 slices of the most gooey chocolate-cake you could imagine. Nils and Hallvard were fighting with theirs but I had no problems. Yummy. After the children had gone to bed, the adults sat down (after a great dinner) and played Ticket to Ride, a railway game where you have to build railways along prescribed routes around the world. Sunday we drove home, It had been a very enjoyable weekend indeed and it was very heartening to realise that even more snow had disappeared. At Heddal we stopped to take some photos of the Stavkirke. |
