On Wednesday we went to a Katie Melua concert. We set off early so that we would be able to park in good time, because it looked as if we would have to park at Colour line in Kristiansand and walk to Ravnedalen. As it turned out we parked at the railway station in Kristiansand and got to Ravnedalen far sooner than we expected – about 30 mnts. The sun was shining and we walked through the park and were one of the first to get there at 6pm We weren’t allowed to take portable seats, drinks or cameras in so we had to leave them outside at a charge of 10kr. At 7p.m. we were allowed in at last. There were many as old as us or even older so that was good. We sat on the grass pretty close to the stage and the first act, a supporting group, came on at 7.45pm. It was Anne Marie Almedal who was known in Norway for writing the theme to Himmelblå – a soap. Her music was very pleasant and melodic and she produced an interesting noise by running a stick around the rim of a big glass. She played for about half an hour and there was a break before Katie Melua came on at about 9.00pm. We were still close to the stage but we were pushed hard from behind because in the end there were 4,300 people and it was standing-room only. I should say something about the place. Ravnedalen provides a natural stone amphitheatre formed by the mountain curved around the grass where the concert took place, so the acoustics were good. Katie Melua herself said that it was a lovely place for a concert, mentioning that she had been to Glastonbury which was not as clean as the Norway setting. At Glastonbury, she said there was a lot of shit around, not that shit was bad, but it was so clean and nice in Ravnedalen. One of my colleagues from work, Christina Jore, was there. I think she was as surprised to see me as I was to see her. But after seeing her at the queue I didn’t see her again. Katie Melua sang most of her well-known songs like 9 million bicycles in Beijing. She said that she had had an argument with a scientist about her text where she sang “there are 12 billion light years from the edge but he said that there were actually 13.8 billion, but it did not fit into the song and sounded very stupid. The concert was very enjoyable indeed. The atmosphere was very good and the songs enjoyable light listening. Katie Melua is extremely attractive and good to look at but I felt that she could have interacted more with the crowd. But she is only in her twenties and will probably develop that skill later on. Her supporting group were very professional with an excellent keyboards/pianist. It was all round a very enjoyable evening. |
